Xwena Mineral Resources

XMR Team Establishment

Xwena Mineral Resources (Pty) Ltd (XMR) was birthed out of the Xwena stable to concentrate our focus on the minerals exploration, mining and beneficiation industry. Having had a primary focus on petroleum products and distribution over many years, Xwena rightfully saw the need to venture also, into the renewable energy arena. Essentially, this was an acknowledgement of the “writing on the wall” as it pertains to carbon-based energy sources.

Having successfully acquired its own rights in respect of Copper and other Rare Earth Minerals in South Africa we initiated investigations into various mineral assets in Southern Africa especially Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia, Rwanda and Uganda. XMR was incorporated for the purpose of exploring and investing in such suitable mineral assets.

Together with a geological consultancy company based in Gauteng, Frontline Consulting Solutions (Pty) Ltd (FCS) (website: www.frontlinesolutions.biz) investigations and assessments have been carried out of many assets with many more to follow. Through these investigations a priority portfolio has been established. Considering the assets that were being evaluated, two areas of expertise were considered vital to the operational success of XMR: surface exploration (drilling), and processing. Xwena in addition to Frontline identified two additional strategic partners to assist in the realization of it’s mineral exploration vision the being Tailtech Technology and the other Diabor (www.diabor.co.za)

Under the supervision of the Executive of the Xwena Group the following Team have been assembled to realize the objectives of XMR, ie.

Patrick Fann

Patrick is a registered professional natural scientist, a geologist with over 25 years of experience in all fields of geology and at various levels of management and leadership. He gained experience working for some of the larger mining and exploration houses in South Africa, such as Impala Platinum and Anglo American. Patrick has also spent 8 years in the non-profit sector in South Africa directly involved with youth development in age groups ranging from primary school through high school and college going youth.

He currently operates his own consultancy (since 2019), Frontline Consulting Solutions (Pty) Ltd (www.frontlinesolutions.biz) focusing on geological, mineral resource and management consulting. He specialises in business strategies for developing communities, taking green and brown fields mineral exploration programs through to production in such a way that traditional communities gain the most benefit.

Tania Pienaar

Tania has nearly 20 years of processing experience. She brings extensive experience of providing insight and recommendations to optimise the strategic direction, financial, and operational viability of mining businesses to the corporate table. Since 2004 she has been a director of Tailing Technology (Pty) Ltd who focus on PGM and chrome tailings re-treatment.

Prior to that she worked for Impala Platinum as an Operations Manager in their Rustenburg processing plant. She has a chemical engineering bachelors from the Cape Technikon (2002) and an MBA from the North West University (2009). Tania is married to Adrian, an entrepreneur, also in the minerals industry, with two children (12 and 8 years old) and lives in Rustenburg. Outside of the grueling processing industry, she has also completed 4 Comrades Marathons.

Renier Strydom

Renier grew up in the drilling (exploration) industry – his father, Sarel, started his own drilling company in 1978 and he therefore spent many weekends and school holidays at the rigs. In 2002 Renier joined his father at Diabor where he started right at the bottom, working his way from a tool assistant up through the ranks, when, in 2005 he was appointed as a Director. First as Operations Director and currently fulfilling the position of Managing Director.

His journey over the past 19 years has led him to work in eight SADC countries, exploring various commodities from coal to gold, and just about everything in between. At times drilling in extremely remote areas flying in daily to site with a helicopter, to the much easier plains of the South African Highveld. Renier is married, with two children, and based in Pretoria. The full Diabor prospects can be viewed on their website, www.diabor.co.za.

Xwena Mineral

Company Strategy

XMR strategy is essentially defined in two areas: beneficiation of easily accessible resources (“low hanging fruit”), and exploration.

Resource Beneficiation

XMR has acquired access to various easily accessible resources in the form of tailings dumps, containing metals such as gold, silver, copper, tantalite and lithium. The plan is to properly evaluate these resources through sound geotechnical methodologies, design and implement the most suitable processing plants, and beneficiate these resources for profit.

Exploration

Through a process of prioritization, based on geological studies, XMR will identify the best assets, firstly in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia for the investment of exploration capital. The vision is to produce formal resource statements with a Competent Person’s Report (CPR) (for which FCS, Patrick Fann, is qualified), and where expedient, take certain projects through to mining production. XMR does not necessarily have the vision to become a mining company, but rather an exploration company. However, they possess the network of associates to assist in taking their green fields projects all the way to production.

XMR is determined to become a successful player in the Southern African minerals exploration and production industry, through the application of:

  • null
    An ethical and principled approach to all engagements in the industry;
  • null
    Sound scientific methodologies;
  • null
    A principle of adding value to local communities and economies; while simultaneously adding shareholder equity value.
